Burlington Dads ("we", "us") runs the World Cup of Food 2026. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, and what your choices are.

Who we are

Burlington Dads is a community group based in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. Contact us any time at info@burlingtondads.com.

What we collect

  • Account info — your email, display name, and (if you use Google sign-in) your Google profile basics.
  • Receipts — the photo/PDF you upload, plus extracted fields (restaurant name, date, total).
  • Activity — which restaurants you've visited (verified), your ranked votes, your tier and event hat claim status.
  • Interest forms — anything you enter on "Register a restaurant" or "Become a sponsor".
  • Technical — basic device, browser, and IP information for security and abuse prevention.

Why we collect it

To run the tournament: verifying your receipts, awarding tiers, unlocking ranked voting, generating your hat claim code, contacting you about the event, preventing fraud, and reporting non-personal aggregate results to sponsors and the Help a BD Fund.

How AI receipt verification works

When you upload a receipt, we send the image to a vision AI model (via the Lovable AI Gateway, currently Google Gemini) to extract the restaurant name, visit date, and total. The model returns a confidence score. Approvals above the threshold are auto-verified; everything else is reviewed manually by an event admin. The image and extracted fields are stored in our secured backend and tied to your account.

We do not use your receipts to train any AI model.

Where your data lives

Account data, receipts, votes and sponsor/restaurant records are stored in a dedicated Burlington Dads backend hosted on Lovable Cloud (Supabase infrastructure) in Canada. Access is restricted to event admins; row-level security rules ensure regular users only see their own private data.

Cookies & analytics

We use a single first-party session cookie so you stay signed in. We do not run third-party advertising trackers. Lightweight, aggregate usage analytics may be collected to understand traffic patterns — never tied to individual receipts or votes.

Third parties

  • Google — only if you choose Google sign-in (their privacy policy applies).
  • Lovable AI Gateway — receipt verification.
  • Burlington Dads CRM — confirmed restaurant entrants and sponsors are synced to our internal CRM via webhook for event coordination.

Sharing & publication

Your name and avatar may appear publicly on event leaderboards and category standings. Your individual receipts, votes, email, and contact details are never shown publicly.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your data, correct it, or have your account and receipts deleted at any time. Email info@burlingtondads.com and we'll respond within 30 days.

Children

The platform is intended for users 13 and over. Kids are welcome at the events themselves, but accounts and receipt uploads should be handled by a parent or guardian.

Changes

We'll update this page when anything material changes and bump the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use after a change means you accept the new version.
